Are you ready to Organize & Declutter your Home?

January is the time to get organized so I've put together tips to organize and declutter your home for the new year. Don’t worry, you got this!

1. Declutter

Every year we acquire mountains of stuff. Regular purging makes it easier to find and use the things we love and enjoy.

So before you can get organized, you need to declutter! We all have stuff we don't use, need or want.

It's impossible to declutter your home in a day. Allow yourself at least a half day per room and clear anything you don't use, wear or love.

2. Keep, Sell, Donate or Toss

Go through your home room-by-room and organize things into piles to Keep, Sell, Donate or Toss.

Here are some simple rules for clearing clutter:

  • If you don't want or need it, haven't used or played with it or worn it in 6 months - Sell or Donate

  • Is it broken or missing parts or pieces? - Toss

For the Keep pile:

  • Figure out where each item should go and place it there.

  • The better you organize things, the easier it is to stay organized.

3. Organizing Keeps

Do you have items you don’t use now but may use in the future, are too expensive to replace or hold sentimental value?

  • Place these items in marked bins for long-term storage.

  • Make a list of what is inside each bin.

  • Review this list yearly and re-evaluate if you should Keep, Sell, Donate or Toss each item.

Keep things that raise your energy and make you feel good.

Sell, Donate or Toss things that drain your energy or are broken.

Quick Room Organizing Tips

Only have an hour? Tackle a room and do a quick declutter!

Bedroom

  1. Start by making your bed. It will make your bedroom feel clean instantly!

  2. Clear the tops of nightstands, dressers, chests or bureaus of anything that doesn’t belong and put it in its proper place.

  3. If your nightstand is a mess, add a drawer organizer so everything has its place.

  4. Fold or hang any clothing and put it away.

Bathroom

  1. Take everything out of the medicine cabinet.

  2. Toss outdated prescriptions and expired make up and skin care products.

  3. Wipe out shelves and replace essentials with daily items front and centre.

  4. Remove everything from the cabinet drawers and toss any unnecessary items.

  5. Place items you use the most in the top drawers.

  6. Empty the cabinet under the sink and discard any items you no longer need.

  7. Do the same with your shower/tub.

KITCHEN

  1. Reclaim your fridge and discard any items past due.

  2. Wipe the shelves and drawers with baking soda and hot water.

  3. Restock fridge with fresh food.

  4. Clear countertops placing items in their place.

  5. Keep only items you use daily on your countertops.

Living room

  1. Gather all remotes and place them in a pretty box, bin or tray so you have a place to put them after each use.

  2. Fold and put away any blankets not in use or for display.

  3. Clear coffee and side tables of anything that doesn’t belong and put it in its proper storage place.

  4. If you have a coffee table with a lower shelf, consider adding baskets or bins for extra storage to reduce clutter.

  5. Streamline bookshelf clutter with decorative containers, magazine holders and other fabric covered bins or baskets.

Now that you've decluttered and organized your home,

don't forget to spend time with family and friends

enjoying your rejuvenated space!

For 2019 I’m manifesting more harmony, more gratitude, more connectivity, more fun, more laughter, more adventures and a whole lot of design! Wishing you an amazing year!
